With Dave, there is no standing around. We get more accomplished in a single training session than most would in a week long camp. Every drill has a purpose and every minute on the ice is put to good use. Dave has a rare ability to identify the key areas in your game that are holding you back and he has the tools to get you past them. He consistently demands your attention and effort, always pushing you to be your best. Drills with Dave are never just going through the motions, he makes sure you spend time to think about the purpose and benefit of each motion so that it will benefit you long after the session is over. The absolute best thing about skating with Dave, however, is the hard work. He leaves it up to the individual to push themselves, never yelling or demanding the effort, simply reminding you not to work for anybody but yourself. After a skate with Dave, I am always in good spirits. His attitude and smile on the ice reminds me that hockey is, first and foremost, a game, and that it is important to have fun. Since Peewee year I have been working with Dave both on and off the ice. His dedication, drive, expertise, and support through my hockey journey so far have allowed me to be the only Vermont ’96-born hockey player to make USA Hockey’s National Player Development Camp the past two years, and having the opportunity to go to all four of the National Player Development Camps available to me. I also credit Dave with helping me pursue my hockey dream at a Prep School (Kimball Union), and even though I saw this process as a little intimidating, Dave helped me to navigate the system. Currently we are still hard at work to achieve my next dream: playing Division I college hockey. With Dave’s support and expertise, I am confident that this dream will become a reality. Ever since I first met you, Dave, when you coached us at the hockey festival, I knew you were an outstanding coach. You have been a key attribute to my growth in the game of hockey. Your tremendous passion for the game is contagious and it’s a blast to be on the ice with you. The drills you put us through get us out of our comfort zone, which helps to improve the skills other players typically don’t work on. Even after just one or two sessions I can really tell a difference in my game, in my stick-handling, shot and speed. You know how to convert a player’s weaknesses into strengths. I had a problem with missing the net too much and over the course of a single week you helped improve my shot so that this season I have rarely missed the net, all thanks to you. Your tips on off-ice strength and conditioning that have greatly improved my performance as well. You are helping me achieve my short term goals so that hopefully someday I achieve one of my long term goals - playing college hockey. Avery and Will started skating with Coach Pavlik when they first made the Vermont festival team. Dave has a keen eye to pick out what specific skills the players needs to focus on during his clinics and has the unique ability to connect with the kids and encourage them to put in the extra effort it will take to become a better player. We have continued to use his clinics over the years to fine tune their skills and believe it has been a factor in the development of our kids as players on and off the ice.
